fashion forecasting: 2023 trends

Today was our 2023 trend meeting, and we broke down everything we’re seeing for the upcoming year. We talked what designers we’re loving, what we’re noticing on the runways, and who we’re taking inspiration from. We put in the research so you don’t have to! These are the trends that we think will be the most relevant over the next year.

FAUX FUR

We’re seeing faux fur jackets start to trickle down into the mainstream fashion world once again. Available in a large variety of styles and textures, this look will be coming in hot alongside the current sherpa coats. If you still have an old one that you’re excited about wearing again, just make sure that it LOOKS new before continuing on!

BOMBER JACKETS

Bomber jackets are coming back in a big way. We’re looking for something oversized that hits at the hip, or lower, covering your bum is ideal. Have fun with leather, different fabrics and colours!

ASYMMETRICAL SKIRTS

The high-low skirts came and went, now we’re moving onto the ‘mullet hem’. We’re talking asymmetrical, short on one side, long on the other. There are a bunch of fun interpretations on this trend, and we’re ready to dip our toes in.

WEDGES

A modern take on wedge heels and boots is in the near future. NOT the old cork ones that we all used to own, a fresh take on the wedge shape, at a lower height, with a contemporary material. Bonus points if the heel tapers in at an angle.

BALLET FLATS

We said it earlier this year, and we’re here to say it again! Ballet flats are here to stay. With a pair of crisp denim or trousers, these shoes will instantly make you look like you know what you’re doing. The Mary Jane strap will also likely become more mainstream in retail stores.

THE NEW DENIM

Don’t panic, straight leg jeans, kick flares, and wide leg denim are here to stay. Although, barrel leg jeans, baggy denim and the ‘horseshoe’ cut will start to become more relevant and accessible again over the next year. Keep your eyes peeled for affordable retail options that will be in stores soon, we sure will!

THE NEW SNEAKER

Chunky ‘dad’ sneakers are startingggg to fade in the fashion world. Don’t hate us, but a thinner, more boyish style will be everywhere soon. Look for Asics, Vejas, Adidas, you know the drill. Keep them neutral, or play around with a colourful stripe. The Asics Mexico 66 are our current faves.
